I believe that art is a powerful tool for self-expression and creative development. My goal is to provide a fun, engaging, and supportive environment where students can explore  while developing their artistic skills.

Educational Philosophy

In my teaching philosophy, I prioritize the empowerment of students through the principles of choice and authenticity. I firmly believe that providing students the freedom to choose their creative path enhances engagement and investment in their learning journey. Encouraging exploration of unique interests and authentic self-expression is my strategy to cultivate ownership over artistic endeavors. This approach not only nurtures creativity but also hones critical thinking skills as students navigate decision-making in the realm of art. Within this framework, my teaching philosophy emphasizes a delicate balance between granting students’ autonomy and providing a structured learning environment. While championing individual choice, I recognize the importance of guiding students with a framework that ensures a comprehensive educational experience. This equilibrium allows students to select projects aligned with their passions, fostering the development of technical skills and a deeper connection to the artistic process. The result is a sense of ownership that kindles genuine enthusiasm for learning, extending well beyond the confines of the classroom walls. Moreover, my approach transcends rigid structures, acknowledging that each student possesses a unique set of interests, talents, and perspectives. The learning environment I strive to create accommodates this diversity, encouraging students to explore their passions within a framework that maintains a balance between choice and structure. This synthesis not only facilitates the development of technical skills but also instills in students a profound connection to the artistic process, promoting a sense of ownership and enthusiasm that endures throughout their educational journey.

A Commitment to Inclusivity

At the core of my teaching philosophy lies a steadfast commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Recognizing the enrichment diversity brings to the art room, I aim to create a space where every student feels seen, heard, and respected. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I understand the significance of representation and actively strive to be a source of inspiration and support for my students. Embracing a spectrum of perspectives, backgrounds, and artistic styles enhances the educational experience, preparing students for a world that values and celebrates differences. Through inclusive teaching practices, I not only acknowledge but celebrate the diversity within our artistic community. My role extends beyond that of an educator; I aspire to be a representative figure, fostering a sense of belonging for students who may find resonance in my journey. This commitment ensures that the art room is not just a space for learning but also a place where individual identities are acknowledged, celebrated, and woven into the rich tapestry of our shared artistic experience.

Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the confines of the art room, my overarching goal is to guide students in becoming the best versions of themselves. I see education as a holistic endeavor, aiming not only to develop artistic skills but also to nurture qualities such as resilience, self-confidence, and empathy. By connecting the artistic process to personal growth, I aspire to equip students with the tools they need to navigate life's challenges and contribute positively to the world around them. Through this approach, I hope to inspire a lifelong love for learning that extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Guiding students to become their best selves involves more than imparting artistic skills; it requires cultivating qualities that extend into their personal and professional lives. I emphasize resilience by encouraging experimentation and risk-taking in artistic expression, teaching that mistakes are integral to the learning process. Moreover, instilling self-confidence is a fundamental aspect of my philosophy, fostering an environment where students feel secure in their abilities and are unafraid to share their authentic voices. Through empathetic teaching practices, I aim to nurture a sense of compassion and understanding, recognizing that art has the power to transcend individual experiences and connect us on a profound human level. This holistic approach ensures that students not only excel in the art room but also emerge as well-rounded individuals poised to make meaningful contributions to society.
